STRATEGY OF THE LAMBRAKIS PRESS ORGANIZATION
AND ITS GROUP
In the era of the New Economy, the role of communication
lato sensu has become a decisive factor for societies'
development. The new technological possibilities
now offer a revolutionary power of communication
in all areas of the economy, making away with the
traditional restrictions posed by emission-reception,
space-transportation and cost.
Interactive communication has already taken its
place next to the traditional one-way communication,
with traditionally inactive receivers of messages
now transformed into transmitters towards all directions.
In this context, the major media and communication
players had to take up the challenge of rapidly,
effectively and systematically giving form to the
vision of a new world of communications and information,
while being simultaneously obliged to reinforce
and expand their traditional range of printed and
electronic products, as these will continue to satisfy
a large part of our communication needs, whether
in combination with new technological possibilities
or not.
This challenge was accompanied by a wave of mergers
and acquisitions at an international level, leading
to the emergence of powerful corporations, active
in a multitude of domains related to the wider field
of information and communication, to which digital
technology applications gave new scope. These corporations
are no longer local or national, but global companies.
These developments also affect the outlook for local
publishing-communications groups in Greece, which
are currently adapting their strategy in order to
face the new competitive environment and to make
the most of the new challenges and opportunities
arising from this changing market.
Under these conditions, where international competition
intensifies and the borders between local and global
markets are no longer clearly discernible, Lambrakis
Press and the Group of companies it controls have
adopted, and are implementing, a strategy aimed
at: exploiting the opportunities arising from the
new international world of information and communication;
making the most of their comparative advantages
in the local market; and, creating the prerequisites
for a powerful and competitive presence in future
developments.
Towards this end, the strategy of Lambrakis Press
and its Group, already successfully implemented
over the past two years, lays emphasis on:
The reinforcement of the Company's capital base
and that of its Group which, through the implementation
of large-scale investment plans, will sustain their
dynamic profitable development.
The continued profitable reinforcement of the Group's
global position in the traditional publishing, printing
and tourism activities via intragroup restructuring,
aimed at creating distinct business sectors, capable
of an autonomous development and able to promptly
exploit opportunities as they arise, and to bring
about economies of scale and positive synergies.
The expansion of its activities in the wider environment
of communications, technology and commerce opened
up by the Internet. The timely response of Lambrakis
Press, the largest Greek communications company,
to the great challenge posed by international developments
in this field, based essentially on new technologies,
corresponds to a series of initiatives aimed at
ensuring its active role in digital communication.
These activities, already in the making through
a network of specialized companies, concern both
electronic news coverage and e-commerce.
